new Alesis CLX-440 compressor, limiter, expander is da bomb!!!!!! seriosuly.

I bought it last night from Guitar Center and it is a DUAL Stereo (4 in, 4 out) compressor, expander, limiter and it rocks. Digital compressor +4 -10 switchable and balanced. direct outputs, sidechain input, key input.

I have never in my life used a more intuitive compressor, i am impressed. It has seperate input and output meters for each channel, it has a gain reduction meter as well as gain expansion meters. it even has a seperate peak limiter after the output stages that is controlled via a single knob.

you can use all three at the same time.. compressor, expanger/gate, and peak limiter and they all work well. very transparent sound. I also love having seperate INPUT and OUTPUT meters, makes it easy to match signal levels. whats really nice is the visual gain reduction vs' gain expansion meters and how they interact with each other, it is great.

Notice how i didnt say anything about it's sonic quality.

nice features, sounds OK (just OK)

but really.... get an FMR RNC for 200 bucks or even less from www.mercenary.com.

I'll sell you my clx-440 for $175 (manuals and box) included.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hmm... Rode, Rode, and getting another Rode is going to add "diversity" to your mic selection? On top of that, the NTK and NT1000 are supposed to be very similar.

If you really want to diversify your mic cabinet, get a Sennheiser MD421, EV RE20, a couple omnis (www.stapesaudio.com or the B-word ECM8000 for $40 a piece) or better yet, save your pennies and get a Royer R-121 ribbon mic and a great preamp to go with it. All this to say - if you're gonna add diversity to your mic setup, then make sure you're actually doing that.
