Currently, it appears, it is Apple who has dropped the ball. Even their own software is not rock solid, and the OS is leaking memory like crazy.

Indeed. We have a few M1 Minis that we are testing our Live/Max playback system. It's great, we'll deploy to the show soon. Other than that there is a hold on any Apple Silicon for audio. Video/projection is using M1s in production for editing with good results. The big suites are still trash cans and cheese graters. The M1 Pro/Max is a big no go right now. The exception is some of us knuckleheads buying a machine for personal use. And now being without a solid personal Pro Tools system. It's not like we didn't know any better but the Pro/Max machines are beasts. We reopened a show last night and did a promo piece in the afternoon with playback from a PT7LE/Mbox Mini rig on a 2nd gen 17" MBP (old guys remember those). Use what works not necessarily the latest.

Pro Tools wouldn't run on it at this point anyway. They never support the latest regardless of what stage the OS is in.

Can you name one instance in the last 20-25 years where Avid has been ready to support new hardware on release let alone new releases of the OS? Even point releases can be problematic and often not officially supported until months after release.

Logic and Live run on Monterey well enough to work for many. As always there are cases where the specific configuration and use case impact the reliability.

Release date is irrelevant and unfair, because Avid does not control OS. Neither are most production systems running latest and greatest, but you do have a good point. Until Avid drops Win and Mac and creates their own avidOS rhat will never happen
