General sampler ... Kontakt by NI
http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAM...R/Kontakt.html

and for drum samples ... Battery by NI.
I haven't used it yet
http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAM...R/Battery.html

that's all I can think of at the moment.

Kontakt is not very good at all imo. If you have a TDM system get the emagic TDM bridge and use the ESX24, If you have an LE system I dont know if its is esb compatible. If it is get it and you can use VST and Logic instruments in PT

Battery is excellent for drums

Or get UGLYVSTI which is free (not to sure thats its name), It allows PT to use VST instruments. If it works on your system then you have a multitude of choices. Halion being the best I suspect. Nice interface, very friendly to use. Not as good sounding as the ESX 24 but is multitimbral.

Forget sample Cell. Its a cold, bland sounding sampler with a horrible interface. Digi had a good oppurtunity with sample Cell but they blew it. I reckon it is without a doubt the worst soft sampler out there.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">TDM system - Mix and the TDM bridge but what about the new HD ???

Give me a hint , what is an ESX24 ??

"UGLYVSTI which is free "
give me a link here ... I need to experiment with this.

"Forget sample Cell. "
Ouch!

I do understand this sentiment. Sample Cell is not up to the user standard of some of the others. BUT it is still reliable in out PT systems.

This part is dificult to explain as it has so many aspects and history.

ProTools is your chosen host software and then to that you add plug-ins and soft stuff and even some Hardware bits. It's all money.
Then comes the up-grades and ineviatable changes to code etc. OS and Computers and protocols all change and when they do your Plug or soft purchase stops working and you may have to up-grade.... more money.

I guess the point I am making is staying close to the Digi product can help here.
Also when ever you have a very important part within a song "print it to the HD as audio".... so if that piece of S/W goes AWAL you still have the part. I have many a software that now cannot be run in my current system. Even the Freebies so don't get too attached to the freebies as they may stop working when you up-grade.

good luck and experiment before spending the cash.

I have been using Battery with my MBox (on an iBook)

Results have been satisfactory

www.iBookStudio.com (if you want to hear them)

and I would be happy to help anyone in a similar set-up

(there were many phone calls made to tech support at both Digidesign and Native Instruments to set it up)

Are you using Battery in PTLE 5.3.1 on XP?
