Default Pro Tools and Native Apple Silicon use...

...when is it going to happen? Now we have Logic, Cubase and Nuendo 12 and Studio 1 all running natively on Apple Chips - maybe others I don't know about - so when is PT going to catch up?

There won't be an announcement before it arrives, so we simply must guess if curiosity gets to us. I've guessed late Fall but for various reasons it'll probably take longer.

Maybe I missed it, but anywhere has anyone from Avid ever said something like "yes, there will be a native version for Apple silicon in the future". So I'm starting to wonder if it's ever going to happen. Hope it does.

Cheers!

Rosetta will be deprecated in the future, so they have to make an AS native version of their software unless they want to go out of business.

Or, they can change their system specs to reflect that they’ll only support hardware no longer made or second hand machines. /s

Thanks for expanding on this and you are of course correct. I know Avid never says much at all about anything upcoming and my statement seems "out there" but I would think they could at least, however confidential things need to be, state something to the effect: "yes we are going to release AS native in the future just sit tight". There again apologies if I missed something said to this effect. Have a good one!

Avid staff have mentioned work is under way on a Apple native port on this very forum. (I can't find the thread... Avid should have something useful about this pinned on DUC). So it's happening. It's so obviously has to happen, if it will happen was not really ever a question. Why Avid is so slow... we can all speculate, has been done lots already on DUC.

And that thread, sigh. New Avid forum dude was trying to help, and that was great, but said a few silly things, got a little flack for that, and then has disappeared again. Which is just so totally the wrong thing to do. So much for helping out on DUC.

There is no absolute reason why Avid cannot be a less obtuse/seemingly arrogant company. Many public companies work to talk about product roadmaps etc. *I've* driven or been involved with lots of information disclosures through to public announcements on products and technology at public companies. All this "we don't talk about anything" is a choice, and in Avid's case overall it's a bad one. It indicates to me a lack of confidence in management in their own ability to you know... actually manage a company to actually deliver products.

This is not something to get too hung up on if your system is currently working. Even if there was a Silicon native release tomorrow, it would not be advised to jump straight in if this is your living.

It would be good to know from Avid what restrictions there would be on a native release though. Do all the plugins used have to be native as well, or is there some hybrid workaround allowing for the fact that some plugins may never get the update.

The only legit reason Avid has to be a bit careful on disclosure, is being publicly traded I believe there is an FCC reg where thy have to release the product with in the quarter is announced BUT as you say there is no time frame on talking about that they are working on it..

I agree it was nice when Kyle Splitberger was continuously replying in the Carbon thread (obviously they were trying to encourage sales ) but it gave you the feeling that really cared about the customers.
All this cloak and dagger is pretty silly . Nobody is asking how they will be writing the code, we just want some assurance they are working on it and want the dam code written.

I see the OP mentioned Studio One. I have S1 4 but unfortunately the stupid S1 plugin for running HW inserts does not work over the Carbon's ethernet connection. I tried to get to get S1 support to tell me if they were working on it OR if it might be addressed in a new version and was basically ignored by the very limited to non existent, S1 support

Believe you mean SEC and not FCC.
There is no such rule. Shareholders can sue if the company misrepresents a release and expected returns but that's a different issue.

Yes I meant SEC. I thought I read somewhere that it was a regulation but I could be mistaken
