Default EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PR

So have been having this random crashing with certain sessions since upgrading to 9.0.5. So today I booted off the clone I made when I still had 9.0.3 running, and the sessions that would crash within a minute or so of opening in 9.0.5, didn't do it and I could get what I needed done..

Any ideas on what is causing this..?

Doesn't happen with any other software.

Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 3.33GHZ 6-Core, 10GB RAM

Have you tried trashing preferences yet? Are ALL installed plug-ins compatible? Have you tested from a different/new administrator account?

All of these suggestions for troubleshooting (and more) can be found in the General Troubleshooting thread. I would suggest you start there and report back with the results if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply. Yes tried trashing prefs etc. Repaired Permissions...

Didn't install any new plugs or update since updating to 9.05. Do some plugs that worked with 9.04 not work with 9.05?

When I booted off the clone, I was logged in as the same user so would this matter?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you read the info on plug-in compatibility in the General Troubleshooting thread?

You may have plug-ins installed that *worked* under 9.0.4 but not because they were actually compatible - that's the thing about incompatible plug-ins. Theymay work for awhile but at some point you will likely see problems. In this case it may be that you just didn't see the problems in 9.0.4.

Can you zip up your AvidLogFiles (from Users>your account>Library>Logs) and email them to me at: vi [at] digidesign [dot] com. Please include a link to this thread in the subject or body of the message.

I'm having a similar problem with Pro Tools HD10. I can open the software, but when I try to open the I/O window, the system crashes. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software clean. It works for about an hour then it will crash again. I went through all the plug-ins and checked them for compatibility. I even tried setting up a new user account and launching PT again. Same result.

I was using Pro Tools 10.3.6 when this started happening. I read on a few forums that I would need to upgrade to 10.3.7, but the same crash happens. I haven't upgraded or installed new software on this computer. It is strictly for audio production.

Running OSX 10.6.8
Pro Tools HD 10 v. 10.3.7

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Did you just look up vendors web sites and check plugin compatibility, or did you actually go and move plugins out of the plugin folder(s) and try to find what one might be causing this problem. You *have* to do the actual move test.

I used the chart from AVID.com to check the compatibility of each plug-in. Any that didn't meet the requirements were moved to the UNUSED folder. They no longer show up during the start up window.

The software will open and I can do everything EXCEPT open the I/O window. When I click on I/O from the settings drop down menu, I get the MAC pinwheel and then the crash window.

I've run the Apple Hardware Test and did the through scan. System says all hardware is working properly.

I created a new user / administrator...still crashes.

You are running HD native PCie Card with an Omni right? So you have just installed Pro Tools, you have not installed any other HD drivers right?

How did you install 10.3.7? Did you do an unisntall with clean option on the previous install? Do you or have you had /tried to install any version of Pro Tools 11 on this system?

Are you absolutely sure you have tried properly deleting all prefs and database files? e.g. doing exactly this: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/...ols-10-mac-os/

And can find all the prefs and database files that are described there?

---

When you go into the Setup>IO page do you get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) application crash? or some other crash error message? Or is Pro Tools hanging? or is the entire Mac OS X crashing?

I assume it is the SIGBUS application crash, and then if so in the System Console (console.app) under user diagnostic reports you should have multiple crash reports for Pro Tools. Paste the first 100 lines or so here of the most recent one of those crashes.

Oh well, that a crash in the main thread, dinking around with GUi stuff, no plugins implicated, kind of just what was expected from the description. Unfortunately it gives me no other clue. I'm still suspicions of either corrupted prefs or a mangled install. Try answering all the questions from the previous post.
