Drag and Drop into AAX Samplers

Hey everyone, I'm new here and a recent Pro Tools convert after years of Logic and Ableton. I'm loving Pro Tools a lot so far and digging the powerful workflow improvements. You already know that each DAW has it's pros and cons, there is no perfect DAW. But Pro Tools comes really close for me.

One thing I simply can't get over as a composer/producer is the lack of Drag and Drop functionality in PT. No other DAW has this problem.

Fumbling through various Finder menus to find a collection of samples to throw into Kontakt vs simply grabbing a kick, hat and snare from the workspace and dragging them right in is an infinite difference in time and effort.

Please Avid, on behalf of every producer/composer, fix AAX protocol once and for all and allow this invaluable functionality just like every other DAW on planet Earth.

I completely agree!

Back when Pro Tools used RTAS, Drag and Drop functionality was there. But with the switch to AAX, we lost it for some reason. I don't understand the technical reasons why it can't be added back, but my understanding (which I hope someone chimes in and tells me I'm wrong) is that it is a limitation of AAX which means that if this functionality ever comes back, all plug-in developers will have to code to a new format.

But over the years, this one really really bothers me and it is so uninspiring to have to export audio files and then navigate to them from the instrument's browsers.

Yes, I want to be able to drag a clip from the timeline into a plugin window. They show that in the Waves CR8 video, but the drag and drop feature doesn't work on PT, it ends up moving the clip. So I have to export the clip as a file, then import it back in through Waves which is slower. I'd love to see the drag and drop fixed.

It used to work with STRUCTURE (AIR Music Tech) in the RTAS days.
I am missing it badly, besides I spent money for having exactly this function in PT
Now I have a VI that has become useless, at least for me!

and it made me re-discover Structure Free, which is really most of what I need in a quick-n-dirty in-Session Drag-and-Drop sampler.

Good point. I tend to use Kontakt but it's overbuilt when only creating basic kits. We often need to fill the keyboard with SFX for MIDI triggering and this has been a godsend.

At one point we had to slice up each section in PT, save that as an individual file, go to Kontakt and import each one, place them on the keyboard and set their pitch.

Maschine - anyone try drag and drop to this? When I drag audio from the timeline, it creates a "Sampler" in the slot and appears to be importing... but the result is blank audio (but the right time length). Two steps forward... one back. But this would be awesome for Maschine.

Here are a few stuff I was able to find that might help.

Check your hardware

Make sure your hardware is connected, turned on, and turned up. You can also
try getting audio from another software program, like a web browser.

Check your playback engine

Make sure your interface is set as the playback engine in Pro Tools. You can find the I/O Setup window under the Setup menu.

Route MASCHINE's audio
Load MASCHINE in an Instrument Track in Pro Tools, then create a new Audio Track. Send MASCHINE's audio to Bus 1-2, and set the Audio Track to receive audio from Bus 1-2.

Turn off Auto Low Latency
In the Delay Compensation section of the Audio Track, right-click on the cmp indicator and select Auto Low Latency off.
