I always hated CodeMeter. A good decision on their part IMHO. Woohoo!
This is Terrible News.

The reason is this will make it close to IMPOSSIBLE to sell your Antares account if you want to sell your plugins.

Antares does not allow license transfers (which is breaking the law in many parts of the world), but people used to sell their accounts,

BUT NOW YOU CANNOT just sell your account anymore, how are you going to transfer the iLok license if Antares does NOT allow it? (or do they allow it now?)

> This is an Antares trap to stop people from selling ANYTHING

Am I wrong about this?
Should I make a new thread on this?

Nope. Antares closed the door before they dropped iLok. Whether they open it again is another question.

Yeah looks like that was announce 6/9/2021

Antares Transfer of Ownership Policy

Information regarding license transfers

Jun 9, 2021Knowledge

As described in "Section 5. License Grant; Restrictions", of the Antares Software License Agreement, Antares licenses are non-transferable.

You must not make the Software available (e.g., sublicense, distribute or transfer) to any other Person, including through any time-sharing, service-bureau, software-as-a-service or virtual
recording studio arrangement.

This is actually agains the law in many parts of the world where Antares sells it's products, mainly illegal in the entire EU, it would ony take 1 person to take them to court over it.

So, Antares going iLok again is just another attempt to deny people the chance to sell their plugins, in other words, this is an attempt to block people from selling their Antares accounts.

This is wrong by Antares.
It is illegal to deny people the chance to sell their own plugins.

To all those people celebrating that their plugins have just turned into iLok, you just got trapped by Antares.
They locked you in and now you can't get out unless you move all your other iLok licensses to another iLok account.

Basically,

The only work around I can see is,
(if) you buy an Antares plugin, then open a new iLok account, activate the plugin solo in that new iLok account, then if you want to sell your plugins, just sell the entire iLok account to the new owner.

Glad I haven't got Antares plugins. Melodyne all the way with Pro Tools ARA!

I have useless licenses for AT 6-9, but have not used for years anyway. Melodyne is just so much better and if I need to take a shortcut, other shortcuts sound better than AT.

Yep, I agree. I only use AutoTune as an effect, for the AutoTune classic sound and for close as I can get for real-time tuning. Love Melodyne!

It is a policy change.

Say you bought the license before the policy change, then in EU courts the purchase time policy is still valid unless you have signed agreement to the change of contract. It seems in US it is possible to just publish a press release saying if you keep using the licensed software you accept the policy change.

The policy in the EU is, the developers cannot prevent users from selling software. There is no policy Antares can put in place which would deny people from selling their software license.

For the US, it's different sadly, so people rights are not being respected in my view.

But in the EU, if a Company sells into the EU, then it does so at the rules of the EU and nowhere else.
It's just a question of somebody taking Antares to court in the EU, but who's going to that?

I hope it never comes to that, but the point is, peoples rights are being stepped on.

But more specifically, factually and legally the law in the EU states:

According to a 2012 judgement by the Court of Justice of the European Union:
"An author of software cannot oppose the resale of his 'used' licences allowing the use of his programs downloaded from the internet".

An official press release / summary is available here (PDF):
http://curia.europa.eu/jcms/upload/d...cp120094en.pdf

This states >> "even if the licence agreement prohibits a further transfer, the rightholder can no longer oppose the resale of that copy."

I hope it would never come to a court case like this, but these are the facts as far as I know.
