Default Protools studio mtrx | hdx thunderbolt | spl surround controller model 2489

Hello.
I bought a new computer Mac M2 Max OS 14.6.1 and a new sound card "Protools Studio MTRX" for my studio and I have a Surround Monitor Controller "SPL Model 2489" I also have an HDX Thunderbolt Card and i have Protools Ultimate 2024.6.0.
Currently, my old "Digidesign IO96" sound card is connected to the SPL splitter with an RCA connection to its input and I have 8 PL's connected to the output that go out to my monitors (5.1 setup) - https://ibb.co/ykwryv2
My question is how do I connect the new sound card (MTRX) to the SPL? I know there is a connection called DB25 which is basically what I need I'm just not sure how to connect it all. Do I need a DB25 male to female cable? male to male? And can I leave the PL's ports for the monitors as it is connected now and only connect the new sound card to the SPL via DB25 input?
Or if I connect the new sound card through the DB25 connection, do I necessarily also have to use the DB25 connection for the output to the monitors?
Thanks in advance!

You have several options to proceed. Yes, if you want to continue using the SPL device for monitoring - you can simply connect a DB25 to DB25 (male to male) from the LINE OUT 1-8 DSUB on the back of the MTRX Studio.

Even better, ditch the SPL and use the MTRX Studio for what it is best at - high fidelity control room monitoring from Stereo up to Atmos.

best,

Jeff

Hi Jeff, thank you so much for answering me! Yes, I am currently interested in continuing to use the SPL device. So you're basically telling me that all I need is to buy a male to male DB25 cable and just connect the output of the MTRX sound card to the input of the SPL and leave the PL's outputs on the SPL that go directly to the monitors as it is connected now? Don't I have to also use the DB25 port in SPL to output to the monitors? And where should I order the DB25 cable? I checked on the "thomann" website and they don't have a male to male connection at all. Only male to female. Do you know a recommended site where I can buy this cable? Thanks in advance!

There are numerous options and prices from Avid, Mogami, Pro Co, etc.

Here's an example of an Avid DigiSnake:

Thanks a lot Jeff! I will buy this cable. And just to be sure, Can I leave the PL's that come out of the SPL to the monitors as it is now?

Sure. Assuming that all of your existing stereo and surround speakers are functional and correlated to the right channels on the SPL monitor controller - you should be good.

best,

Jeff
