OBS API Update for screensharing
Hi all, I share my screen with OBS to clients for voiceover and ad mix sessions.
Everything is fine on Ventura, but when I share Pro Tools windows on Sonoma, the Minimise/Maximise buttons are covered by a blue monitor symbol, which is telling me that those windows are being shared. If I hover over those blue icons, I'm given options to close/maximise/minimise in a dlist, but they DON'T WORK, so I can't close plug ins once opened. Anyone know what to do? I've been told that the OBS people need to update thier API, but I can't see a company who's entire business is screen-sharing to miss something so fundamental, so I'm sure it must be something I've done. Thanks Mac Mini M2 Pro Latest PT Studio Ventura latest (testing the above on Sonoma latest). |

Re: OBS API Update for screensharing
Hey chrisVVS,
i do have the same behavior, but i am quite sure this is a Sonoma issue to protect you being externally spied on. What you still can do if you need to share the whole application is minimize windows in this application. Another workaround is to share single windows like the edit window and or the mix windows. Each of these windows can then only get minimized and not close, but at least plugin windows are not affected and behave normally. The downside (i would take that as a feature working with clients...) is that plugin windows are not captured by OBS and not transmitted... |

Re: OBS API Update for screensharing
Hey chrisVVS,
Looks like you bumped into a security "feature" of Sonoma. When grabbing full applications with OBS, you can't close grabbed windows but you can still minimise them... Best workaround is to grab single windows like the "Edit" and/or "Mix" window as they are unlikely needed to get closed. The nice part is that tweeking Plugins won't get grabbed by OBS so client don't see you fidelling parameters. Another way is to grab the whole display without the OBS window where everything is as usual... But then tweeking Plugins will be transferred to OBS and your client. It's not a bug, it's a feature... |

Re: OBS API Update for screensharing
You bumped into a "safety feature" of Sonoma.
Once grabbed in OBS you can't close grabbed windows... But you still can minimize them at least. One workaround is to grab single windows in OBS, not a full app. Edit and Mix Windows are less likely to get closed anyway... The benefit of this method of grabbing is that clients won't see you fidelling in plugins... At least for me that would be a feature. Last method is to grab the full display and click "Hide OBS". Then everything reacts like always. |

Re: OBS API Update for screensharing
I'd be grateful for more help with this.
Is there any way around it, other than capturing the whole screen in OBS Doing so hammers my GPU and makes running Pro Tools and OBS unstable. I know that there's a way to make things work as normal by turning off SIP, but I'm not doing that. Last edited by chrisVVS; 11-06-2024 at 06:32 AM. |
