Default Midi/ Quantize chop

I'm running a digi 001 with 5.1.1 on a MAC G4 400. I'm having a problem when I record Midi. The first note at the start of the recorded section gets chopped off. I'm not sure if the second problem is related but if I quantize the section some how when I play back the section the notes are shorter than when I played them orginally. I mean really short like they got chopped. Please help! PS I've tried different quantize settings but still the same
