Re: Consolidating clips causes distortion
You've pushed the file over 0dBFS. When you play this back through the 32 bit floating point mixer, it has enough headroom to cope, when you consolidate the clip to a 24Bit file, it doesn't.

So how come when I commit the track (which consolidates it as well) the problem goes away? |

Re: Consolidating clips causes distortion
Commit is by default using 32bit floating point files, which can go over 0dBFS. You can change this in the prefs to your session settings.

Re: Consolidating clips causes distortion
After opening his mp3s in RX, I doubt that's the problem. Unless he brought his master fader way down before bouncing or something. His peaks are well below full scale.

Re: Consolidating clips causes distortion
Not sure if this is YOUR issue but I've seen this with other users several times and it can be a bugger to come to terms with, essentially you may have inadvertently zoomed the waveform out and then at a later point seen the reduced amplitude of the file and done some "gain staging" to bring things back up to a more optimal level, everything will sound fine until you consolidate the file and see the resulting waveform clipped and squared off, as already mentioned, internally the 32 bit float makes it almost impossible to achieve distorted signal... until you consolidate and create a new file which is now actually quite a bit hotter.
As I said, not sure this is the issue at hand but worth a look, a quick way to reset the waveform zoom to default is ctrl/opt/cmd/[ (this is on a Mac) or option/a to zoom to entire - which will also work to reset the waveform zoom. Good luck. |

Basically the moral of the tale is *turn everything down*

Re: Consolidating clips causes distortion
Used to. Currently it clips at +20 dBFS. There's a thread about that bug, too.

Yes, exactly - unless this has been pulled down after the consolidate these files are at a very safe level. Something else strange going on with this. Would like to see the original files/session to see what's happening.
