Gradual fade across multiple clips

I have four adjacent clips on a track. Each clip is cross faded with the next. I am looking for a way to easily apply a gradual fade out across the entire 4-clip section.

I have tried to "group" the clips to create a single track to fade out, but pro tools says i cannot group clips with cross fades. I also looked at the batch fade tool, and was unable to locate the appropriate function.

A) consolidate the clips (with crossfades) into a new clip. Then use the new file and apply your fade

or

B) use volume automation for what it was intended


You can't apply fades/crossfades to other fades/crossfades. There is no "workaround"

My 2 cents, since consolidating the clips will make the cross-fades permanent, I would leave them alone and use BScout's option of volume automation. Just show Volume, drop 2 breakpoints and drag the end down to nothing. It took longer for me to type this than it will to do it


If you do choose the consolidate option, duplicate the playlist first

You can also create a Region/Clip Group and apply a fade on the grouped clips.

That said, this is what volume automation is for...
