Default No sound from ProTools

To ProTools Users,


I lately made some adjustments to my studio setup audio cables etc to clear around my floor space. Also did a new update to ProTools Ultimate 2021.10.0 and updated the macOS to Mojave 10.14.6

I run a MTRX Studio with DADMan and Thunderbolt HD Native but currently cannot get any sound out of ProTools Ultimate even after defaulting to stereo in the I/O settings. I updated the HD Driver to 2021.10 could this be the area of my problem.
I hear audio from the DADMan software but I have no PT Thunderbolt option available within the Mac's system settings as one of my output devices.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

So what is the playback engine actually set to?

Did you do a full clean macOS install or an in situ upgrade?

You may not have granted security permission to install the driver/kext. Did you do that? You have to carefully follow the instructions/screen prompts. Lots of discussion on DUC on this. ... but AFAIK the permissions might be grandfathered in if you did an in situ upgrade, but which I would not recommend for so many other reasons.

And finally, it won't cause this problem but don't forget to enable Security & Privacy>Privacy>Microphone permissions for Pro Tools.

I set the Playback engine to ProTools Aggregate I/O.
But have options for Dolby Audio Bridge also Audio Cast and Internal Speakers.

Did you do a full clean macOS install or an in situ upgrade?

In Situ upgrade from macOS Mojave 10.14.5


I may not have fully granted security permission to install the driver/kext.

But granted permission within the Security & Privacy settings as the ProTools.app is showing ticked for access.

Should the microphone icon also be showing in the Privacy area or just the Pro Tools app.

The HD Thunderbolt is not showing at all in the Macs sound preferences.

Rerun the driver installer and make sure you follow the exact instruction for approving the driver install.

...likely because there is no driver installed.

Trying to use aggregate IO is not going to help you.

You have a driver problem. Fix that.

Lots of past discussions about approving driver installs on DUC that may help you. I'm not going to repeat all that here.

Having tried to update the Avid HD Driver from 2021.6 I cannot uninstall it as I cannot even see the DigiDal.kext, to verify the version that I have installed:

I only see an extension named AvidDX version 5.9.2 and nothing called DigiDal.kext

I tried to do a clean reinstall of the 2021.6 HD Driver but so far nothing is working and the HD Thunderbolt output is still not available within the Mac's settings.

A further note regarding the HD Thunderbolt it showed briefly inside the sound preferences but then it disappears from the menu.?

To ProTools Users,

Having contacted Avid support I still have problems getting any audio output even from ProTools Ultimate 2021.12.0 after updating the HD driver and installing the newer software from the previous version.

I tried a DigiTest and include some screenshots below would anyone know how to fix this No sound issue.

Was support able to help you get the HD Drivers loaded correctly?

What is your case#?

Does HDNTB show up under AudioMIDISetup > Audio ?
