@Jeffro: I had an .mp3 import issue yesterday.
(https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=417939) It only caused clicks and pops, not full scale noise or anything painful. I can send the offending .mp3 if it would help. Send me a message if you'd like it.

Cheers!

I’m getting clicks & pops on all imported mp3s. Running ultimate on Big Sur on m1 Mac mini. It’s nauseating & I’m going to spend hours re importing and re bouncing files for clients when it’s fixed.

Maybe it could be related to the dimension of the file. Yesterday I tried to import a 90 MB mp3 file and had this issue. Full scale distorted noise. Then tried to import some common song dimension files of about 3 MB and they worked fine.

I found a workaround. Converting mp3s to wavs with an online file converter fixed the issue for me.
A mod said they are investigating but Im just gonna use wav until fixed.

I repeated my test for the new release today (v2021.12) with that same MP3 file. Exactly the same result. 5-10 second beachball during import, finally carries out the import, total waveform and audio corruption once imported.
Booted back to my Pro Tools 2021.6.0 partition. Works perfectly.
I guess nothing in the import engine got addressed this release.
I saw several other reports in different threads over the last month or so with similar import problems.

All you have to do is convert the mp3 to a wav and it fixes the problem.

Does anybody know if Avid have sample files where this fails? Where you able to get them one? This was a problem, then was not, then Avid seemed to contemplate their navel more, but then seems radio silence.

That’s not a fix, that’s a workaround.

Valid yes, but it appears something is broken and needs addressing.

Had an issue with an mp3 file imported into pro tools 3 different times (same file).

First import, it was crackling and popping like rice crispies but I could still hear the music.

Second import, it came in as absurdly loud white noise....no audible music.

Third import, same as second.

I used to Logic to import the mp3 (with no issues) and export as a wav. I understand this is only a workaround but it's obviously a bug if Logic can take the same exact file and import it clean.

Avid, please check into this issue as this is sometimes a crucial part of my daily workflow when working with student projects.

Yea tell me about it. I just paid avid $800 for update for m1 compatibility.
But I can’t wait around crying to avid. I would miss $500 a day.
