It's the "code name" for "regular", non HD Pro Tools. That's all.

It's a bad name. I love vanilla icecream (which is properly done) but most people think of vanilla as "basic, dull, or otherwise non-interesting".

All in all, "Vanilla PT" is the regular version without HD features.

Pro Tools is the basic software and Pro Tools HD is the full-featured software.

HDN is the hardware that does not have DSP but is capable of connecting to HD interfaces. HDX is the hardware that does the same but has DSP.

Clear enough now? :)

You're correct.

HDN is a HD without DSP
HDX is a HD with DSP

Whoever came up with the names of HDN and HDX should retire.
