Default SPIDF CONVERTER?

can anyone please explain to me what a spdif to analog converter is and will it allow me to have 18 I/O's on my 002R instead of 16?...

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I believe you can use EITHER the analog 1+2 inputs OR the SPDIF input, so I dont think you would get any advantage in getting a spdif converter.

This is not the answer to the question being asked.

You CAN get 2 EXTRA inputs (from 16 to 18) by doing the following:

1. Filling up all 8 analog inputs.

2. Using ADAT-format lightpipe with an ADAT optical-equipped A/D converter to get an additional 8 inputs.

3. Using an analog to SPDIF converter to get an extra 2 inputs.

For a total of 18.

There are a lot of analog to SPDIF converters out there, from inexpensive to pricey...do a Google search and many will pop up. An old DAT recorder with spdif output is a cheap solution, although it is only 16-bit.

Get one of these and you'll be ready to go. You could of course team that unit up with one of these . That would give you at least 10 very nice additional inputs to add to the 8 analog already available. For a grand total of 18.

The boxes Macr0w pointed to will certainly work beautifully. But it is good to know there are boxes available that are a tad cheaper. But then you wont get that Apogee quality....
