Default Panning in Pro Tools?

Hello to All.

I come from the Analog world and I'm just getting into Pro Tools. I have a question regarding panning in Pro Tools. I'm used to the panning scheme on analog mixing consoles and I'm a little confused by the panning scheme in Pro Tools. With Analog consoles if you want to pan a track to "1 o'clock or 3 o'clock" it's easy to see that on an Analog console. But with Pro Tools you are working with numerical values. So, obviously "0" would represent 12 o'clock or dead center and "100" would represent either full left or full right.

So my question is: How the do you figure out the panning on everything in between? Like for example: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 o'clock in numerical values? Is there a mathematical formula for figuring this out. I know this may be a little deep but I have searched every where in the Pro Tools manual, Discussion boards and I have found nothing on this topic.

Thanks very much!

Analog / PT
12:00 = 0%
5:00 =100%
Scale = 20
1:00 = 20%
2:00 = 40%
3:00 = 60%
4:00 = 80%

But I usually just use my ears.

BTW the LE forum is down the hall.

Hi izzi
You could also use the channel pop-up (click on the little fader in the I/O section of the edit window, and have "Show I/O View in Edit Window" selected) and, if the track is assigned to a stereo output, you'll see a knob instead of a right-left slider. Might be easier to get used to.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks,

I don't know why I thought 6 o'clock was 100. I guess that being you can turn a panning knob to almost 6 o'clock, I presumed that was 100.

And thanks JKD99 I'll try that as well.
