Default 64bit proc: what\'s the oldest working ver of PTLE

Hey all!

A friend of mine is looking to buy a Gateway (specs follow..)

GT4010: AMD® Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ with Enhanced Virus Protection; 1GB Dual Channel DDR-400 RAM; 200GB 7,200RPM Hard Drive; 16x Double Layer DVD±RW Drive; nVidia GeForce 6100 Video Chipset; 10/100 Network Adapter; Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005;

He is running a 001 with PTLE 5.3.1 and was wondering if the Athlon 64bit processor will work with this version of PTLE.

If not does anybody know what is the oldest version of PTLE supporting 64bit processing is (he's hoping to upgrade to 6.1 or 6.4 if possible for this PC..)

Thanx in advance..
- GAPE

The XP media edition may be a problem.
Definitely upgrade to PTLE 6.4 CS6 & 9 for ASIO and REWIRE compatability as well as XP service pack 2.
6.4 is as stable as 5.3.1 was. And it's only $35- to upgrade.

He'll probably also need a second drive for his session files [although I've run an OO1 on the system drive with no problems in the past].

Much thanx.

However, any idea if 5.3.1 will work on this 64bit system (just in case he doesn't plan to upgrade to 6.4 anytime soon..)?

The 64bit Athlon should work fine... Service pack 2 however may be a problem.

OO1 owners speak up!

Well, my friend installed it and it's working fine.

Initially, he installed it without Quicktime (or whatever it's called) and that caused his system to reboot.

After reinstalling AND including Quicktime all worked fine (for now...).

He does plan to upgrade to 6.4 really soon, but until then I'll report if he sees problems with it..
