Default Problem wiht 6.2.2 and 10.3.2 and Mbox

I am unable to start PT on my G4 1.25 gHz Powerbook, it consistently crashes while loading, usually during the "setting up midi" phase. I am running it off an external harddrive. Other than the power cable and the ethernet line nothign else is connected to teh computer. Help!!,
Thanks
