Avid, please give us the option of selecting the language !!!

All these scripts mentioned are very poor workarounds....

Besides, what sense does it make to localize ProTools without having
localized support forums?????

I mean how can I ask about a specific problem here in the
English speaking DUC if my ProTools is completely in German ???

That is a valid question and I hope Avid soon takes some time to answer this question. Myself, I would be happy to deal with problems in english as long as I can choose the PT language (english) as user preference and not have it copied over from OS language selection (german, for example in your case).

Sure, supporting localized software gets trickier. But if it's any comfort for you, this kind of software has error codes for everything, and therefore english-speaking Avid support personnel will understand if someone says:

Problem: -12345678: asdfkjsdhf fdkjh sdf aslhfksadjhflds dskfjh dfkjh s jdjds kskjdshf skj hsdflkdsjkl -- What to do?

They just search their error code base and see what the problem is.

Naturally that is not everything. It would be nice to be able to talk about issues in native language. But I fear that is impossible, as Avid should have personnel watching over that discussion, and if no-one at Avid speaks finnish we will never have a finnish DUC forum -- probably some of them however speak german

So now that PT 11 has been released:
can someone please tell us foreign users,
if PT 11 has a selectable language option or not...

It has on Windows. On Mac unfortunately it hasn't.

Has been like this with 10 as well.
I altered the script that boots up 10 in english to work with 11.
You can find it somewhere ariund here. I'm on the road with a crappy internet connection, so I can't look it up to post the link.

The windows platform basically required you to install an OS is the language you wanted, so we initially (back to XP days) made it so you could run the app with other languages. Changing languages is much MUCH easier on the Mac. That being said, we have heard the request and are looking into it.

What you didn't consider is, that people might want to have PT in english regardless which language their OS is running.
I've been using PT since version 5,and grew very accustomed to it the way it was. When after 10 years suddenly everything was german, this was hugely irritating. I don't get, how Avid could think this was a generally good idea.
However I'm glad to hear, that you guys are on it.
And thank god there's this script. :)
