Default Crackling when moving windows??

ey. Just upgraded my daw.
Specs:
Nvidia 8400gs
I7 3,5ghz quadcore
4gb ram
win 7 32 bit
2x6dsp cards - soniccore
Running pro tools 9
64-1024 buffer

If I load a synth(forgot the name.. The analog tube synth) in pro tools and play, I get glitches when playing.
When I move windows around while playing I get alot more crackles..
If I minimize the pro tools window I get no crackles.
The CPU meter is always about 3-5% so that's not an issue... Even though it jumps up and down a bit when I move windows around.

This also happens without using a synth and just monitoring inputs via pro tools or mixing.
I tried disabling all extra graphics stuff but I'm new to win7 and dont know all the secret menus.

Thanks alot!!:)

And by the way.. Everything works fine in reaper.. Is pt really picky about graphics cards?
I gave already done the suggested digidesign tweaks ( optimize for background services
, disable power management etc)
Will do a Sandra report later this week

Hi there,

I have the same issue with crackles when moving windows. As far as I understand it and after speaking with Avid, it seems ProTools does not play nice with Windows Aero. Also, my system insists on putting the IRQ of the audio interface on the same IRQ as the video card. I haven't found a way to force Win7 to change an IRQ yet, but I'm still investigating.

The current workaround is to disable Windows Aero when PT starts. Right click the PT icon on the desktop you use to start PT and go to the compatibility tab. Make sure both the Run as Administrator option and the Disable Desktop Composition options are selected. PT will now start after temporarily turning off Windows Aero and your clicks should disappear.

Best of luck!

Already tried the disable suggestion. Still doesnt work thanks though!
I have the same irq problems as well. I'll be installing win xp later today and see if it works better.
Keep up the suggestions!!
And did this trick work for you?

Same thing here. Reaper works flawlessly (and did even before I disabled Aero). Pro Tools crackles when making any changes to windows or even when resizing a track. The only workaround I've found is, don't change anything during playback. It's like the old joke, "It only hurts when I laugh. And the doctor says, 'Don't laugh.'"

Makes me already hate pro tools... The reaper installation file is about 5 megabytes and is really stable and has tons of features.. And is not computer-picky at all.
Pt costs alot, fills up alot of hd space and is really picky!
Aaaarghhhhh drives me mad!
Avid better come up with a solution for this!

And in other news Windows 7 just surpassed Windows XP as the worlds most popular operating system. Proper GUI support would be nice. And yeah that includes Aero.

I have an ATI 4300 series card. So it's not limited to Nvidia.
