old 882 w/ HD2 accel system ?

I recently connected a PCM 80 that I was planning to sell into my 192 via S/Pdif.
I used to use this reverb with an analog console using it's analog I/O.
I was never overly impressed w/ it compared to the PCM 70 or even the PCM 60.
When I A/B'd it to TrueVerb,Reverb One, and RenVerb; it sounded WAY better!
I was really suprised.
I 'm now thinking maybe I should get a 882 just for the SPdif connections, so I can use this box to take the load off my accel card.
so my question is, does the old 882 pass 24 bit digital?

Correct me (someone) if I'm wrong, but Legacy 882's and 888's (not the 888/24) only pass digital at 20bit.

It looks like 18 bit for the Legacy 882 Unless it is just not indicated. I believe the 882|20 will pass 24 bit.

That's for the AD/DA. It doesn't specify the SPdif I/O.
I was looking in the PCM 80 manual and I think it's only an 18 bit unit anyway.
I borrowed a "legacy" 882 from a friend, I'm gonna try connecting it tonight.

i don't think you can get the HD system to recognize the 882 as a legacy port. it will recog an 888|24 as a legacy device.

It will also see the 882|20.

I just told the digi setup it was a 882/20 even though I'm using an old 16 bit 882.
Seems to work just fine.
I think I'm going to use this 882 exclusively for the SPdif into my PCM80.
I'm planning on upgrading to 6.4 and Panther real soon. Hope it still works OK.

I use the 16 bit 882 and it gives me 8 extra analog inputs to my HD2 system. I cannot get the analog outputs to work though,just the SPDIF output.
