Default A new Macbok Pro for a PC Geek

Well after fighting with my eMachines M6811 for about a year I gave up. I bought a MacBook Pro. Just loaded up PT 7.3 for the 002R and I'm up and running. As I type I've got 20 Dverbs going and 32 tracks playing and recording. Buffer is at 64 and cpu usage at 99%. So far it has been an easy transition. It took me about 3 hours total.

I'd be happy if I hadn't already spent 1K on that eMachines POS. Just a pain to have to buy a computer twice to run PT. But I'm happy now and I can stop bitching about how it wouldn't work on the M6811.

So if you are thinking about getting a laptop. So far I can't reccomend the MacBook Pro enough. Having never owned or used a mac before I've stuggled a bit with basic things but I'm figuring it out.

Do I get banished to the Mac forum now?

Well after 14 minutes I finally got a 6086 error. Likely because I'm typing and moving things around. Or the 64 buffer, or all the Dverbs.

All I can say is, Digi really needs to kick their programmers into shape.
They need to et PT's PC workign the way it's supposed to.
I never had problems with Nuendo on my M6805, but had tons of problems with my PT's M-Powered set-up.
We'll see if it improves on my new laptop.

I totally hear you! I got an old G4 Quicksilver Mac from a school dumping them and have been using it with OSX for 3 weeks now. I could only put PTLE 6.9 on it since it's an old 800MHz chip. I am hell bent on going Mac now and I am also planning to get a MacBook Pro too! The only reason I need to use Window$ on it is for my business software which is Windows only. Otherwise it looks like a hassle free future for me with Macs!

I bought a Macbook Pro strictly to avoid all of the PC laptop problems that seemed to be occurring almost at random. Its nice to be able to surf the web and not have to disable half the OS to get PT up and running. I detest the Finder VS Windows Explorer, but the Mac keep surprising me. Nice well built stuff!

Go here for used Mac Books

This is where I got mine. I spent $1999.00 on mine. 17" glossy, 100GB/7200 RPM, best video card etc. Top of the line.

I recorded 20 tracks for 2 hours today at 256 buffer. Then I recorded an hour at 64 buffer with 20 track. My M6811 would never do that. It is just weired not know how to do things on the mac with the OS and Hard Drives but it is easy to figure out.

I got up to 75 Dverbs at max buffer while recording 15 tracks. That works for me....

Of course, take in to account that you have twice the power now.
And again. Don't blame the M6811. Blame Digi's programming.
I just retired my M6805, and Nuendo ran great on it.
PT's would crash every 15 minutes.
