These are the ones I'm trying to stay away from that have actually decreased PTLE performance or decreased stability. There are specific tweaks for PTLE that have worked here and I wanted to get gather them up.

I sure would post some but so far haven't needed any. My best "tuning" advice is to build a stable screamingly fast machine with loads of RAM. Then it will run well and do a lot of stuff.

Sure as I say the above I find something useful, for advanced users:

Preventing Windows from sending user/kernel mode drivers and code to page file.

If you have a considerable amount of RAM in your system (512 MB or more) you can improve system performance by preventing the OS from sending user-mode and kernel-mode drivers, as well as kernel-mode system code, to the paging file.

You can do this by changing a setting in the registry.

1 Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

2 Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management.

3 Double-click DisablePagingExecutive DWORD value.

4 Change the value in the Value Data text box from 0 to 1, and click OK.

5 Close the Registry Editor.

Void where prohibited

How about something about file location? For example:

I know I need a system drive and an audio, but now I'm doing sampling. Where do my samples go? Someone suggested a separate partition on either drive. Also, someone apparently has session files (and plugins settings) on a separate partition from their system drive. I'm not sure where to put what anymore!

Stoner,
I've thought about putting this on the Best Desktop for PTLE thread, but I think it belongs here too. This is the issue of the system not recognizing the second unformatted hard drive. I don't even remember the exact steps here, but I know it is in Administrative Tools under Control Panel of XP , then under Disk Management. It is an old and needed fix for many motherboards to recognize and format additional unformatted hard drives. Here is a post from the last problem I ran into.
Thanks Bro.

Allen! You are DA MAN!!!!!!! That was it!

Under Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, then click on Computer Management, click on the plus next to Storage, then select Disk Management. Both hard drives were listed along with the DVD drive (only other drive was floppy, which did not appear here). Click the unformatted drive.

Now I can't remember exactly what I did, but I believe I selected that drive (right click?) in either the top or bottom of the screen and it gave me some option to partition the drive, so I did and selected various things like NTFS. It did it, and it immediately appeared in My Computer. I rebooted, and it's still there

Geez, I've been fooling with this for 6 hours! And the fix took 10 seconds. Knowledge is certainly power.

BTW, maybe some threads like this one should be linked to within your main Desktop Building thread.

I went to put it on the Best Desktop for PTLE thread and noticed that it was already there. Doesn't anyone take the time to read anymore? Hea hea

Yes, I now see that it is under the "Using IDE channels" section, which should be changed to also read "or SATA drives", or smth. Much of what is under that section applies to IDE but not SATA, so it is easy to start reading and conclude that this section is about a different circumstance and does not apply.

BTW, it also became apparent that, in order to make Windows Setup see the first SATA hard drive with the K8V motherboard (I used exactly the motherboard and drives listed), I needed to use the MakeDisk.exe on the K8V disc to create a floppy disk on another computer. During windows setup, the floppy must be inserted into the floppy drive and so on. However, a floppy drive is not part of the hardware list in the main post.
