Default Dead G5, please help!!!

Hi,

I moved from tiger/7.4 to leopard (10.5.5)/PT8 to try the new stuff but now my G5 wont start up!

Here is what i've done:

I buyed a new sata drived, installed leopard (10.5.5) and pro tools, 8, swaped my tiger drive for this one and run pro tools 8.

I swaped the drives a couple of times and everything seems ok.

Here is the problem:

Today i swaped the leopard drive for the tiger/7.4 one and the G5 refused to start. It stopped at the gray screen, before the black apple appears.
I swaped back with the leopard drive, this time leaving the tiger drive in the second bay, it loaded after using the command to choose from both system during startup, but when i clicked folders in the finder, the G5 just froze!

So i removed the tiger, drive, start back with the leopard drive and started tracking in PT8 (a had no choice!) and after 1 hour Pro tools jammed when i was editing some volume automation and all the system crashed.

Since, i cant rebooth with any of the drives, i tried reseting the pram and boothing in safe mode but nothing work.

If someone has a clue, please help.
I hope everything is clear, english is not my first language so please forgive me if some sentences are not easy to understand

Thanks

Luc

Thanks for the info Mike,

Ouch! yes it's a seagate, but a 500gig, are they problematic too?
Can this affect my other (tiger) drive after i swap?

Another method of ejecting your disc drive: Gently move the door down with your fingers and use a straightened out paper clip to poke into the hole on the drive.

After a couple of hours of troubleshouting, it looks like my first drive bay is not working anymore.

Does anyone know if there is 2 separate controllers for each bay or one controller for both? (g5 dual 2.5 )

Either it's a broken cable or it's a broken controller.

Thanks
Luc

i saw the power connector break on a G5 ....

is the drive spinning up or ?

most sata drives have a standard power connector on them ...

you will need to plug that into one of the extra power connectors inside computer ... there should be a spare near the DVD drive .. you may need an extender ...

i hope that is all it is for you ..

cheers

john
