Digitized picture playback problem.
I recently ran into a problem at an ADR stage where the quicktime movie that was given to us, wouldn't play back on the control room monitor, or in the ADR booth. (It would play in quicktime on the P.T. rig though)
I figured it was the way it was encoded, because another show that was digitized by someone else worked fine, so I know it's not a hardware problem. I want to avoid this problem at all costs in the future. The curent video card is an Aurora igniter Pro. From what I understand, it only playsback MJPEG A movies Should I ask the owener to up grade this card ? I've looked into the Canopus advc110, but from I understand, it plays back through your firedrive only though video editing software, not quicktime. If I need to spot the picture in P.T., how will this work????? (g4 1 gig,os 10.3.3, pt. ver 6.3, running a d 24 system, yes a d24 system....:) Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated.... Thanks.. |

Re: Digitized picture playback problem.
Look at getting Quicktime Pro. You can convert your QT files yourself. This is what I do at my home studio.

Re: Digitized picture playback problem.
a phone call to the ADR stage would have told you what kind of card they had and what codec was needed. but, yes, as sndgeek says, QT Pro would have converted the codec for you. no reason to 'upgrade' the card...the Igniter Pro works fine.
the Canopus is NOT a better solution, and only plays DV.

Re: Digitized picture playback problem.
Thank you for the info.
I'll upgrade to at least 10.3.9, then I'll try it out.... |

We have the Canopus here and it is working fine, without the need for a video software. Just as the others said - you need Quicktime Pro to convert the movies, if they are not delivered in dv codec already. Hope this helps, Timothy |
