Default crossover plugin?

anyone make a crossover type plugin? by that i mean take something (like strings) and split the frequency bandwidth to either 2 differnt outputs..or panned differently on stereo tracks? If not, is there a rigged way to do it? thought about duplicating the track and applying very drastic low pass/high pass filters to each one...but thought there might be a simpler way...
