Monitoring 888/24 to Active Speakers
Hi,
What would be a good choice as a small (but high quality) mixer to put between my Pro Tools I/O and active monitors. Currently I monitor 888/24 output ½ AES/EBU direct to KRK V8’s. Basically I just need a volume fader and optional headphone send in a small desk or rack type configuration. It would give more flexibility for monitoring P/T (and non P/T mixes) … obviously you can’t ride levels on the 888/24 other than the trims ... and this if often limiting.

Re: Monitoring 888/24 to Active Speakers
Consider not using a mixer for your V8 monitoring. Instead use a passive attenuator, between the 888 output and the input of the active monitor. This will maximize fidelity and minimize the noise floor. In not having a mixer, you'll need a headphone amp. The OZ Audio products come to mind here.
If you insist on a mixer for your V8 and headphone monitoring, the small Mackie units are a consideration. Best wishes, John Caldwell

Re: Monitoring 888/24 to Active Speakers
The Furman SRM-80 is a affordable solution that will provide control room monitoring control, headphone control, aux inputs (analog) and dubbing. The remote unit SRM-RU allows for desktop source routing. Very clean and transparent for about $300. I priced a "custom" attenuator localy and parts and labor billed $200.

Re: Monitoring 888/24 to Active Speakers
Hi,
I use a little Mackie 1402vlz and use the 4 stereo ins for ... Mix out from 888/24, External CD player, Computer audio out, And a feed from my headphone amp so I can quickly switch in the cue mix.........Makes it very easy to set up a quick headphone mix. And there are 6 utility channels to boot. All very simple, and very good audio quality. Just a thought.

Also, for you surround neophytes, Martinsound makes the MultiMAX monitor controller, and Studio Technologies makes units between Martinsound & Furman.
