Headphone amps and Techniques
I'm using Behringer Power Play 4 channel. When tracking live band I come out of 882/16 into the 4 aux ins. I can have 4 mixes or 1 mix(which I try to encourage). I dont seem to get enough volume for louder Rock recordings. Is it the amp? Amp suggestions?Any monitoring suggestions? Its is always a hassel for live bands.
Thanks JE

Re: Headphone amps and Techniques
What kind of headphones are you using? My sony phones are much more sensative and louder than my AKG. Also, is the problem that they don't get loud enough or that the phones are distorting too soon? You may have a gain setting problem in the chain which is eating up headroom. Make sure your levels are matched between the 882 and powerplay. You don't want to overload the input to the powerplay, or distort the 882 outputs.
I would check the level settings and then try out different headphones. |

Re: Headphone amps and Techniques
I'm in the same boat and was wondering if I could offer any insight. I just got the powerplay pro and was also disappointed with the output. However I am using akg 240's which are rated at 600 ohms. Reading the behringer manual, it clearly states that running multiple phones off each output is ok as long as the total impedence stays above 100 ohms. This is fine for up to 6 akg 240's per amp channel (which is great). What I don't understand is that most headphones are all under 100 ohms to start with (the popular sony 7506's are 50 ohms or so). The Sony's sound alright by themselves (plenty loud) but I'm concerned with the affect of 4 or more phones per channel (which would drop total impedence to 12 ohms or less) and haven't tried it yet. I've actually been waiting to buy more phones till I figure this one out. Anyone got a suggestion? btw I love the features and price of the powerplay and intended on running the individual cue sends into the aux inputs on the front and using the main in for talkback. . . pretty cool if it'll work. . .

Re: Headphone amps and Techniques
I have Furman headphone monitor system (one stereo and four mono lines) and everyone can mix their own mix. Works great unless you try to put on the drummer's headphones
It is loud - it has about 2x20 watts and drives even 600 OHm phones without a problem, and don't forget that you don't need to adjust the mix and please everybody. Try it. Przemek.

Re: Headphone amps and Techniques
I'm a drummer and I just got a pair of "STUDIO CANS" They're made by a company called Metraphones and are available from Musicians Friend and others. They're isolation headphones and they sound great. I can barely hear my drums when I play with them on- It's kind of creepy but for recording at really loud levels they're the bomb.
-Pete P.S. Oh yeah, they're 89 bucks P.S.S. They also have a trim knob right on 'em! |

Re: Headphone amps and Techniques
I start using the studio cans and the powerplay and the problem went away!
I have recorded about 10 difrent drumers without no problem. You can also try the Audio Tecnica headphones , no leak at all. |
