Performance hit in PT 7.4
Just ran a few benchmarks. It appears that even with the Elastic Audio Engine off, it uses up a good junk of CPU. Also, the Disk usage is definitely unusually high. Sometimes it even slams into the red.
PT LE 7.1 - 132 Dverbs with good Disk usage. PT LE 7.3.1 - 140 Dverbs with good Disk usage. PT LE 7.4 - 133 Dverbs with unusually high Disk usage and Elastic Audio engine eating CPU even when off. Now this just may be the way it has to work in 7.4 with Elastic Audio, but, the Disk usage is unusally high and even slamming into the red with small sessions using my Raptor drive. Also, RTAS Processor selection is greyed out. RTAS Processor Selection in 7.0-7.3.1. RTAS Processor Selection in 7.4. Can anyone else confirm this? Shane

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
My processors aren’t greyed out & my disk usage is better than it’s been with any version seemingly.. rock solid...
Also the elastic CPU meter is showing nothing at all when I am not using it... I can’t give you a Dverb comparison though as I never bothered to run one after I went HD on 7.3 N |

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
Well, maybe he's talking about performance in LE, considering this is a PTLE forum.

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
Hello Shane,
I too have experienced a performance hit - very noticable. I have a well-specced "Allenstien" machine - all Digi-OK. Ran 7.3 like a dream. Running a session with Philharmonik, RMX, Ivory and NI Elektrik Piano with SSL and waves plugins - all live streaming from 2 brand new Barracuda SATA Drives. My plugins are very slow to load during playback if they load up at all - sometimes I get the outline of the window and PT just hangs. PT has hung a few times with stuck audio in the space of one hour mostly requiring a hard reset as the three finger salute doesn't work. The number of RTAS processors is now stuck at 2 and you can't select 1 although it is shown but greyed out. The track color "hidden" feature only gives you two choices - on or off. Previously, All three mods and drag would scale the shading. (Described ably by someone else here ) Dragging to change track heights is much more slower. Overall impression is that this version is really a lot more clunky. Moving popup windows and plugin windows around is very jumpy now. I hope we get a solution soon. For now I may go back to 7.3.1 which felt quite snappy in comparison. Mike

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
Well, I know of 2 LE rigs and 1 HD rig with similar problems. Mike, did you do a full Windows XP update before installing 7.4 or did you just install the needed patch?
Shane

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
spkguitar, I know you have XP fully updated and since you have the same rig as mine, can you confirm any of this?
The 3 systems I know of installed 7.4 after the patch only. I'll have to look into this. Shane

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
My Rig has had XP frozen since i installed SP2 from a CD - its not on the net. Therefore the only update I have applied is the said hotfix.

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but It's not the updates.
Here's my tyan quad One peculiar thing; on my macbook with the Core 2 Duo running Windows with the mBox mini, this is what I get; Here's my Core 2 Duo I'm not sure if it has to do with the mini vs the 002r or AMD vs Intel or Quad vs Dual but this does seem to be a weird issue. Any Intel Quad owners?

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
I have an q6600 intel quad. I can select any of the processors, so no greyed out. Everything working fine, not a hiccup during install, and seems to be rock solid here with digi003.

Re: Performance hit in PT 7.4
Thanks, Tamas. That's great info. I heard from a friend of mine with a Mac Quad as well, and they aren't having this problem either.
Looks like it's pointing to an AMD problem or a specific problem with the Tyan then? The plot thickens...
