Default send/return

I am using 002 with 7.1. I am trying to use an external reverb unit. Here is how I am routing the device. send analog output5, insert analog input 4. When I do this I get a very loud noise. What am I doing wrong. I have tried other outputs and inputs as well as other devices they all are making the same noise. Please help.

Thanks

It would be easier to help if we knew what reverb unit specifically.

Create an Aux Track, set the input to an unused Bus (say Bus 3) -- plug the hardware like so:

002 4 Out -> Outboard Effect In
002 4 In <- Outboard Effect Out

On the Aux Track where you normally insert a plug-in.. select I/O 4

To send to the effect, create a post fader send (Bus 3) on the track you wish to effect (say the vocal) -- the effect return level will come back on the Aux Track. Set your effect device to 100% wet. Ctrl+click on the SOLO button of the Aux Track to solo isolate it.

...and the reason for that is f.x. if it΄s a unit with a S/PDIF IO, I would recommend that solution insted. Many modern reverbs has a S/PDIF that you can connect to the Digi 002 with two 75 Ohm cables and you get digital all the way without D/A and A/D conversion back and forth...
