Default how do you store your dvds/cds?

Hope this is not too off topic!

I have approx. 4,000 cds that hold my library; actually, 2x4,000 - one set in my control room in a wall shelving system, and another in cardboard boxes in a nearby location (it is not practical to put these 42,000 wav files onto drives at this point).

How do you store things like this, not in cardboard? Is there a good source for plastic containers that will hold cds or dvds ? IThe cardboard boxes are 12x12x6....

Whatever you decide, your temperature, light exposure and humidity are important.

As light free as possible and as close to "room temperature" (70 degress Faranheit) as possible and not over the top humidity. Light is important, as recent studies showed that light exposure does have an effect on how long the CD's will last.

Also, obviously, you need to have something that can take a little hit without cracking, breaking or scratching the CD's. Cardboard is NOT what I would use. I would go to Home Depot or Loews or whatever and pick up sealable solid color (no transparent see through stuff) plastic containers and put all my stuff in there.

Hi there …

It might also be worth reading this:

http://www.itl.nist.gov/div895/carefordisc/

It’s a Care and Handling Guide for the preservation of CDs and DVDs compiled by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for their digital data preservation program.

Kind regards,

thanx for the caution - yes, that's why I'm looking for storage. However, I am lookin more specifically for the boxes or containers themselves... can anyone give me a link to a seller of plastic containers that will hold (for instance) 400 cds in paper sleeves, stackable (for instance)?
