Exclamation PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch...

Hey DUC!

Soooo....

Everything with Pro Tools was working fine. I went out of town for a week and when i returned, and tried to launch Pro Tools...this popped up [Initialization Error Code: -7]. When i click "OK"...this pops up ["ProToolsLE.exe. - Application Error" The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close application.]

Since this started I tried multiple troubleshooting methods:
  • restarting the computer
  • uninstalling and reinstalling Pro tools and all drivers, preferences, databases, digidesign and anything connected to it. (did this several times. each time code -7 popped up during both the uninstall and reinstall process)
I thought perhaps it had to do with Windows so i
  • restored to previous versions
  • scanned for viruses
  • ran a disk scan
  • even tried launching PT in safe mode.
which surprisingly,worked!...until, mid-way loading, a pop up said that the digidesign hardware could not be found (though the hardware was actually connected.) That's understandable, being that safe mode is not designed to network with drivers.

What is hard to understand is "what's the problem with my PT application?" I have no trouble opening any other programs besides pro tools. Again, it was working just fine for the past few months and then, i don't use it or my computer for a week, and...yeah, code: -7....so if someone can help or has dealt with this issue and knows how to fix it...PLEASE, I could use the assistance.

I'm working with a Mbox Mini 3 and PT 8.0 LE. I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 Intel_Mobile, Windows 7 Home 6.01.7601, 64 bit, with 4.0Gb of RAM installed on the computer.

My computer, being a laptop, has 3 USB ports (one on the left and two on the right). A multi-usb port is plugged into the left port and an external hard drive along with the mouse are plugged into that. I have my Mbox and my MIDI plugged directly into the computer using the two right ports.

Also, here's my Sandra Report

Looking over the Sandra, I see a few issues.

For Win7, you need 8.0.5(install the update and cross your fingers)

Integrated graphics are often a show stopper for Pro Tools.

Your recording drive needs to be a 7200 rpm drive(Sandra reports its a 5400 rpm drive).

Wifi needs to be disabled when running Pro Tools.

Pro Tools should be installed using the Run as Admin function.

Pro Tools should be set to always Run as Admin so right-click the PT icon and go to Properties>Compatibility. Check the boxes for "Always Run as Admin", "Disable Desktop Composition" and "Disable Desktop Themes". You also MUST turn off the power management feature on all USB ports(known as "Root Hubs" in Device Manager). Review all the required tweaks(you really do need them to be in place) and, I would seriously think about doubling the RAM(using the exact same model if there are 2 more slots). Windows 7 64 bit requires 4GB(all you have)and you will be "future-proofing" for when 64 bit Pro Tools 11 hits next year)

Default Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..

I am having the same issue... I have been running Pro Tools 8.04LE for the past year without a problem. Windows Update (while my wife was on my cpu) and now I get the same annoying error.

This happened last week and I was able to go back to a previous save point on my computer... this time that did not work.

I am about to throw my cpu out the window I am so frustrated... I have updated the files like the op did as well as tried to upgrade to the 8.05LE, all with no luck. What is it about the latest Windows 7 updates that completely screws Pro Tools up?

I am starting to wish that I was using a program that DIDN'T require the hardware "dongle". More if a pain than what it is worth...

Default Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..

I tried uninstalling all the recent Windows 7 updates and wiping PT completely off and starting from scratch... still the same Initialization Error Code: -7. Came up during the initial 8.0.4 install after the reset and during the 8.0.5 upgrade at the same point after the reset. I really don't get it... All I know is now I have to cancel my appointment tomorrow. Very frustrated.

Does anyone know of a solution to this? The same exact thing to what you have described (nice description btw) is happening to me and I have tried all of your troubleshooting steps as well, to no avail.
