PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch...
Hey DUC!
Soooo.... Everything with Pro Tools was working fine. I went out of town for a week and when i returned, and tried to launch Pro Tools...this popped up [Initialization Error Code: -7]. When i click "OK"...this pops up ["ProToolsLE.exe. - Application Error" The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close application.] Since this started I tried multiple troubleshooting methods:
What is hard to understand is "what's the problem with my PT application?" I have no trouble opening any other programs besides pro tools. Again, it was working just fine for the past few months and then, i don't use it or my computer for a week, and...yeah, code: -7....so if someone can help or has dealt with this issue and knows how to fix it...PLEASE, I could use the assistance. I'm working with a Mbox Mini 3 and PT 8.0 LE. I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 Intel_Mobile, Windows 7 Home 6.01.7601, 64 bit, with 4.0Gb of RAM installed on the computer. My computer, being a laptop, has 3 USB ports (one on the left and two on the right). A multi-usb port is plugged into the left port and an external hard drive along with the mouse are plugged into that. I have my Mbox and my MIDI plugged directly into the computer using the two right ports. Also, here's my Sandra Report SiSoftware Sandra ID Host Name : Owner-PC Workgroup : WORKGROUP Computer Model : Toshiba Satellite A505 Intel_Mobile Serial Number : 2A25***** Chassis : Notebook Mainboard : Toshiba Portable PC Serial Number : Base Board S************ BIOS : INSYDE 1.40 08/31/2010 Total Memory : 3.8GB DDR3 SO-DIMM Processors Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz (2C 4T 2.13GHz, 1.73GHz IMC, 2x 256kB L2, 3MB L3) Socket/Slot : FC PGA988 Chipset Memory Controller : Toshiba Core (Arrandale) Mobile DRAM Controller 2x 2.4GHz (4.79GHz), 2x 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMM 1GHz 128-bit, Integrated Graphics Memory Module(s) Memory Module : Samsung M471B5673FH0-CF8 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-8500S DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 4-27-8-4) Memory Module : Samsung M471B5673FH0-CF8 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-8500S DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 4-27-8-4) Video System Monitor/Panel : Samsung Generic PnP Monitor (1600x1200, 160AT01-T02 , 15.9") Video Adapter : Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD (12 SM4.0 667MHz Turbo, 66MB DDR3 1GHz 128-bit, Integrated Graphics) Graphics Processor Storage Devices TOSHIBA MK5055GSX (500.1GB, SATA300, 2.5", 5400rpm, 8MB Cache) : 466GB (C:) FUJITSU MHV2080BH PL (80GB, USB2/SATA150, 2.5", 5400rpm, 8MB Cache) : 75GB (E:) HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20F (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 1MB Cache) : N/A (D:) Logical Storage Devices Brytttani's Hardrive (E:) : 68GB (NTFS) @ FUJITSU MHV2080BH PL (80GB, USB2/SATA150, 2.5", 5400rpm, 8MB Cache) TI105322W0F (C:) : 454GB (NTFS) @ TOSHIBA MK5055GSX (500.1GB, SATA300, 2.5", 5400rpm, 8MB Cache) System : 1GB (NTFS) TOSHIBA SYSTEM VOLUME : 1GB (NTFS) Optical Drive (D:) : N/A @ HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20F (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 1MB Cache) Peripherals LPC Hub Controller 1 : Toshiba HM55 LPC Interface Controller LPC Legacy Controller 1 : Winbond WPCE775LA Audio Device : Toshiba P55/PM55/3400 High Definition Audio Audio Codec : Realtek Semi High Definition Audio Disk Controller : Toshiba P55/PM55/3400 4 port SATA AHCI Controller Disk Controller : Toshiba PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller USB Controller 1 : Toshiba P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller USB Controller 2 : Toshiba P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller SMBus/i2c Controller 1 : Intel ICH SMBus Printers and Faxes Printer : Microsoft XPS Document Writer (600x600, Colour) Printer : HP Photosmart C4700 series (600x600, USB, Colour) Printer : HP Deskjet F4200 series (1200x1200, USB, Colour) Fax : Microsoft Shared Fax Driver (200x200) Network Services Network Adapter : Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (Ethernet) Wireless Adapter : Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC (802.11g (ERP), AES-CCMP, 48Mbps) Power Management Battery No 1 : PA372 97.20Wh/9.00Ah Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows 7 Home 6.01.7601 (Service Pack 1) Platform Compliance : x64 Windows Experience Index Current System : 4.5 |

Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..
Looking over the Sandra, I see a few issues.
For Win7, you need 8.0.5(install the update and cross your fingers) Integrated graphics are often a show stopper for Pro Tools. Your recording drive needs to be a 7200 rpm drive(Sandra reports its a 5400 rpm drive). Wifi needs to be disabled when running Pro Tools. Pro Tools should be installed using the Run as Admin function. Pro Tools should be set to always Run as Admin so right-click the PT icon and go to Properties>Compatibility. Check the boxes for "Always Run as Admin", "Disable Desktop Composition" and "Disable Desktop Themes". You also MUST turn off the power management feature on all USB ports(known as "Root Hubs" in Device Manager). Review all the required tweaks(you really do need them to be in place) and, I would seriously think about doubling the RAM(using the exact same model if there are 2 more slots). Windows 7 64 bit requires 4GB(all you have)and you will be "future-proofing" for when 64 bit Pro Tools 11 hits next year)

Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..
I am having the same issue... I have been running Pro Tools 8.04LE for the past year without a problem. Windows Update (while my wife was on my cpu) and now I get the same annoying error.
This happened last week and I was able to go back to a previous save point on my computer... this time that did not work. I am about to throw my cpu out the window I am so frustrated... I have updated the files like the op did as well as tried to upgrade to the 8.05LE, all with no luck. What is it about the latest Windows 7 updates that completely screws Pro Tools up? I am starting to wish that I was using a program that DIDN'T require the hardware "dongle". More if a pain than what it is worth... Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..
I tried uninstalling all the recent Windows 7 updates and wiping PT completely off and starting from scratch... still the same Initialization Error Code: -7. Came up during the initial 8.0.4 install after the reset and during the 8.0.5 upgrade at the same point after the reset. I really don't get it... All I know is now I have to cancel my appointment tomorrow. Very frustrated.

Re: PLEASE HELP! PT8.0 LE gives "Initialization Error Code: -7" and will not launch..
Does anyone know of a solution to this? The same exact thing to what you have described (nice description btw) is happening to me and I have tried all of your troubleshooting steps as well, to no avail.
