There was a very interesting list of valid concerns here just a little while ago - many of which reflected my own, so I opted to keep an eye out for responses here. What happened?

If you wish to use your interface for a few years and not have support for it dropped in some forthcoming version of Pro Tools, then according to the current corporate philosophy, I would suggest buying a 3rd party interface.

With all types of investments, it's always wise to spread them out. E.g. good plug-ins are very expensive. I never buy Pro Tools only plugs, but stick to those vendors who are able to provide and support their plugs in various formats (RTAS, VST, AU etc.). In this way, you are home free, if you are tempted (or forced) to switch to other DAWs.

what happened here?
I would go with 'at least not m-audio'.
the performance of the profire2626 has been bad in pro tools its entire life, always much stabler on any other interface, heck I usually revert to ASIO4All and my onboard sound for mixing because it's so unstable

...just my 2 cents, I use a pair of Steinberg MR 816's CSX and I think they work GREAT with PT10! Each one is a single rack space and gives you 8 inputs. Since I have 2 of them, I have 16 tracks that I can record onto separate tracks. You can daisy chain up to 3 of them together giving you 24 inputs in 1 pass. Here are some links...

The CSX version gives you internal DSP

Hope these help,

I think there may be a misunderstanding here Jimmy ?
Why would a 3rd party interface be more future proof then a current line Avid interface ?

That is what I can understand from your post right ?

Chris

I may be off base here, but i think its down to the drivers and code to communicate with the interfaces. Digi/Avid have always been a proprietary hardware thing until PT9, while the 3rd party companies have built there hardware and drivers to work with everyone(or as many as they could). Many of the Digi/Avid interfaces were never great choices for use with other DAW software, while they all worked fine with Pro Tools I have to wonder if maybe Avid is going to let the lower end of hardware slide out the door(giving it up to 3rd party builders) while they concentrate on the "next big thing" for the pros. It appears they are pricing Pro Tools software so that they make good profit from it without selling any hardware(at least at the lower end of the spectrum). Just random thoughts
