Default Listen in Mono

If I build a stereo mix in Pro Tools and then want to listen to it in mono will creating a mono master track, activating it while at the same time deactivating the stereo master track, give me true mono or will my various assignments and panoramas somehow affect what I'm hearing?

DOes your interface have a mono switch? What you describe may work so just try it.
