Legacy interfaces - are they worth investing in?
I'm about to purchase a Protools HD system and can only afford one interface for it, but wouldn't mind having more inputs available. Is it, in your opinion, worth picking up an 888/24 or 1622 and connecting via legacy port, or should I just either save up/throw another HD interface on mastercard? If I get one of the older interfaces is the quality noticably worse? I mean for $200 [used] having 8 more channels is a pretty good deal but if some tracks are going to stand out as inferior I'd rather not bother. Please shed some light on this for me.

Wow, that kind of sucks. Why even have a legacy port on the 192 and 96 i/o? Forced upgrades sucks!!!!

well it's probably the cheapest way to get spare inputs rather than complicating your life with legacy kit.
Fundamentally though, the ADAT interface must offer more options than legacy kit. I'm not up to date, but I remember OctoPre etc |

Oh I see what you were thinking lol. I already have an ISA828 with the digital option. I was thinking of getting a legacy interface to boost my channels up to 24 when used with a 96 i/o. Looks like I'll just have to pony up the dough.
