Default PT 2018 do I need more RAM?

Hey all,

I've been on the upgrade plan since 2016, but did not upgrade because I stayed on ML 10.8.5. Finally tomorrow I am going to do a fresh install of HS on my Hackintosh.

I see now that 2018 requires a minimum of 16G of RAM.

Now, I know it is a silly question, but does that mean that I need to add more RAM to my system to get the same level of performance I had with PT12.4 using 16 G of RAM? In other words, will I experience any drop in performance on the same system?

I use the system mainly for mixing and editing, no VI's other than SS Trigger 2.. Disk Caching full sessions with room to spare..

16 G of RAM are now working perfectly. Will it stay that way or be "just enough"?

Thanks

I've had the same computer since 2014, the only time I noticed a slight change in performance was when I jumped from PT 10 to PT 11. I have 16Gb too but I'm on Windows, I don't know how much difference the Mac OS can make.

RAM requirements between PT 12 and PT 18 appear to be the same on my system. I think Avid is just warning people that 8GB is really unworkable these days.

You definitely can stay with 16. It´s just that Avid have seen that PT12/2018 does need 16GB Ram at least to work as it is supposed to.
This fact already had been reported by many users even when Avid still told us 8GB Ram would be sufficient. They have just touched up
by experience. Nothing new though.
