Default Why Are My Regions Being Silenced?

Hi, everyone. I have a question: I have a track on which I've looped a drum downbeat audio loop. On this particular drum beat, it's heard non stop throughout the song. There are one or two sections in the song where the beat stops, there's silence and the beat kicks back in again. Since I have this drumbeat looped through to the end of the song, I have select the regions where I want the drumbeat to stop and then start again. I do this and clear those sections, which are but only 1 bar long in silence before the beat comes back in again. However, once I clear the sections for the silence, the audio prio to the silence is no longer heard. Even though I can see the waveforms within the region indicating there is audio there, once I clear the 1 bar section on the track, the regions with waveforms that could be heard previously can no longer be heard. Shouldn't I be able to select any section of a region with audio, clear that region or regions so there's silence, and once the silence ends, the beat kicks back in? Why is the drumbeat audio prior to the inserted silence also being muted when I want it to be heard before the insterted silence on the region starts? Thanks.

Are there possibly any volume automation going on? Can you get a screenshot of the Edit window that "shows" the problem, and provide a link here? I use Imageshack.

Hi. I don't think there are any volume automations going on. But, I say that because I am new at PT and I have not used volume automation as of yet. If it has something to do with the volume level for each track region, I would say no. I believe you can visibly see a change in the waveform levels if the volume of the track region changes. There is no change in the track region that were muted on my track. I simply had a looped region on a track, entered one bar of silence in a section of the region, and wanted the looped audio to continue after the silence. Doing this caused the track regions prior to the silenced section to become muted. The only fix I came up with was to simply enter the silence where I wanted it and then go back and clear out any region that was muted and copy/paste an audible region to where the muted regions existed. I don't think I should have had to do that though. Entering a silence here or there on a track region seems like a simple task. I don't think any section of that track region should have been muted because of what I wanted to do. Oh, well! Thanks for replying.

I never clear a selection. Not that it's a wrong way of doing it, but I prefer to separate the clips as needed, and then I mute the clip so that it greys out. On Mac, I select the clip I want to mute, and hit Command+M. Pretty sure the PC equivalent is Ctrl+M. This shortcut will also un-mute a clip.

I will definitely consider muting first next time. Still doesn't explain what happened to me, but that's probably something I will find out later:) Thanks.

Hi,

The loop is probably just a bit too long and overshoots into the following bar, and is therefore being silenced by the mute on the next bar etc.

Try making the loop just a fraction short of a complete bar.

The only time the wave size changes is when you use clip gain. Automation doesn't change the wave size.

The way that I loop clips is to just duplicate the clip using Control D (pc) That way they are completely independent. It's real fast. Just hold down the CTL key and rapid fire on the D key. I don't work with the loop tool very often so I don't know how it behaves in certain circumstances. You can also use a repeat command I think. Maybe Control R.
