Default cannot import video

Using Pro Tools Studio 2023.09 and 2023.12. I try to import video. It doesn't matter if I delete the existing video track first or let it automatically delete it.

When I go to Track > New, there is no option to create an empty video track. (Even if I have deleted the existing video track first.)

I go to File > Import > Video, and choose an MP4 file that works fine. I choose session start, or selection, it doesn't matter. Nothing happens. It doesn't create a new video track.

Actually, one time something happened, and I got this error message:

Code:
Could not complete your request because Assertion in "/Volumes/gitlabci/PT_COLOR/ProTools/App/Tracks/UTrackList.cpp", line 1540.

(Use the Copy button to copy this message to the clipboard.).
It looks like that refers to a statically mapped volume that might have been used by a Pro Tools developer, who hardcoded it into a code file instead of putting it the build configuration or something.

Try a different file format. H265 seems to be preferred over mp4 if memory serves.
It would help for you to post your system specs, by the way.

This happens whenever I try to create a new audio track, too. Same error. But it doesn't happen on a pristine project. This file was created with Pro Tools Ultimate, and now I'm running Pro Tools Studio. The number of tracks etc. seem to be under the limits at https://www.avid.com/pro-tools/comparison, except that I have more than 128 busses. Also, File > Bounce Mix is greyed out. Do you think this is because the number of busses exceeds the license limitations?

MacOS, Sonoma 14.2, Intel Macbook Pro 2019. Pro Tools 2023.12.

Also, the last I heard, video does not work in “native” mode, you must run in Rosetta mode.

Absolutely not true. You heard wrong. Also, not even relevant since the OP is on an Intel Mac.

ZorkNation

So if you create a new Pro Tools session.... ( let's from start scratch here with a new PT 2023.12 session)

Then from the top menu click on: Track -> New

Then the “New Tracks” window will open as the image attached

Do you get that far?

2023.12, Windows 10 latest updates, 32 gb RAM, Core i7, all Avid and additional optimizations done.

I'm having a similar problem, plus, as stated in another thread, the video size is not staying, even with a Windows configuration for the video size. I've tried to import a .mov and a .MP4 video file. I get a black screen and no audio. Previous versions of PT had no problem with MP4 files and are what I'm normally sent to work with. 2023.9 did import no problem, but did have the video size issue. Going back to 2023.6 to see if that's okay. It used to be.

Which he did not specify in his original post.

Went back to 2023.6. All seems good with importing a video and video window sizes, including with Windows Configurations in a session created after installing 2023.6. However, I tried importing the same video into a session created in 2023.12 and...I get a video window, but no video was imported. Strange.
