Roulette is also red until it is black. Not renewing is just an unnecessary risk, but to each their own.

I don't really see how it's a risk?

This may be last deal in your lifetime, or then again it may not. You gamble on that.

I'm just not seeing the gamble. My plan expires in March. I could pay $200 then to stay current, or $50 more now, and I choose when Avid makes it worth it to "get current".

For me an easy choice.

Then you do not need it. This is for the ones that have lapsed plan, or, who wish to buy the code for future use. Just keep renewing, that is a sure thing (and cheaper/better in the long run)

Yes that is true... but the only ways I can think of where it could be a BAD gamble are the following.

1. Avid reduce their regular support prices AND I want to continue support immediately. In this faaairly unlikely event I can just carry on the support and keep the code until it is practically and financially useful.

2. I jack it all in. But even then I could sell the code... come to think of it, those codes would be pretty valuable if they never run it again. Hmmm...

3. I die. This would be a worst case scenario (some may disagree). But hey, glass half full, I guess my estate could still sell that code though?

Any scenarios I didn't think of?

Well you can die. I almost died in 2016 and in 1987, so I am on my third life already. Maybe I am a cat?

This is a positive sign to me. It shows they know some of us prefer to have a perpetual license. The day they drop that is the day I drop PT.

Yes, but why offer it at such a discount? Maybe they feel they need to make up for something.

C

Well yea, the day Adobe stopped selling licenses was the day they lost me. Not gonna subscribe. Should I ever need to be a graphic designer some company would pay for it. But for a hobbyist, game over.
