Still my Laptop is in the computability-chart of AVID and my thought was to buy a system that distresses the CPU of my MacBook, not the other way round.

The Carbon itself shows no real fannoise. The thing itself is just a brilliant piece for producers like me. In case it finally will work as planned ^^

I opened a case at AVID-Support and hope they have a quick fix ready. Need it up and running by next week ><
There are certainly people who have had laptop fan problems fixed by Avid. A Mac Pro is inconveniently expensive and unportable.
You may help things using Turbo Boost Switcher. Let us know what happens.

Some have reported that using CpuSetter to disable hyperthreading has helped on the fan issue. But you need to do that after every reboot (not wake from sleep).

Hello,

Since it's Mac fan noise, this can be resolved by disabling Turbo Boost. On Pro Tools 2021.6 and later go to the Playback Engine and uncheck the "Intel Turbo Boost" setting. Please give that a shot and let us know if it helps.

The added fan speed from the computer is typically caused by the Intel Turbo Boost which is overclocking the CPU. Once AVB is taxing the already overclocked CPU, the fans ramp up even more.

In PT 21.6 there was an option to disable Turbo Boost build into the Playback Engine section.

Try disabling Turbo Boost and you should see an improvement in fan behavior.

Hi, With the help of the AVID Support Team I was able to solve the problem of the fan noise on a MacBook 15", 2,3GHz, 8core i9, 2019.

Download the latest version of ProTools (at the tine we are at 2021.7)
https://my.avid.com/esd/Product/Download/2538

Then go to Playback Engine and disable "Intel(R) Turbo Boost".

Still the problem with coreaudiod remains. It continues to crush. The AVID Video Engine is eating up over 4 GB RAM when no video is played or even loaded into the project. Seems kind of unnecessary to me.

Kind regrads, U.KUSTIK

Turbo Boost can be turned off relatively easily. Windows is more tricky, but can be done -- but on Mac there are apps that do it with two clicks, but you need to do it after every boot. To make it permanent you need to be UNIX guru. Which is why I am not posting a script for it, because it would be unethical almost in a sense of sendinf you malware to post a script you have no idea what it does.

Damn. I wish I saw this thread before I just plunked down the Carbon cash. I too am plagued by the coreaudioid (not responding) and the kernel_task killing my CPUs. I have turned off Turbo Boost in the Playback Engine, but just in idle, I get waves of usage peaking the 8 CPU meters in the System Usage in Pro Tools. Pro Tools slows to a crawl and the fans are cranking, the machine itself is much hotter than when I was previously running a Dante RedNet interface for my setup. I can barely use Pro Tools at this point. Has there been any more progress on this issue? Does Big Sur remedy any of this?
Thank you for your time!
Matthew

Hey MatheWood, could you start up a support case and let me know the case number? I'm interested to get some more details on your sessions and some logs to get a better picture of what is clogging up your machine.

Thanks!
