Default Re: Compact Control Surface

Just wanted to give an evaluation of the faderport with pro tools and v-control. It works great when it works. I say that because pro tools has a bug in its midi implementation that causes the device to loose the ability to receive data from the faderport.

I have been working with Joshua, the tech at neyrinck (very responsive and knowledgeable) and he gave me a work-around. The problem is fixed by uncheckecking the v-control devices in pro tools midi devices, closing pro tools, then open PT again, open your session then enable V-control midi devices. This bug is repeatable. So, if you are working in a session all day and don't need to switch PT sessions, it works fine. As soon as you close a session and open another one, PT fails to receive midi data. You must do the midi devices dance again for PT to receive data.

Thanks,
jab

P.S. This is a windows system

Before I purchased AVID Dock, I used the Shuttlepro V2. It is USB, has 15 buttons in addition to a shuttle/jog wheel. Poor mans controller. I got quite used to it. Helped speed things up considerable from just keyboard and mouse.

Joshua is great! Windows here as well but I have not seen what you described. I was having an issue with partial function but trashing prefs solved that. Since you are on Windows, have you done the standard(and required) tweak of disabling Power Management on all USB ports(aka USB Root Hub) in Device Manager?

Dave, at one time I did optimize my system for audio. To be fair, I did not verify during this issue. I ended up returning the faderport and buying AVID Dock. wow, what a difference. I bought a $150 android tablet to sit in the dock and I havent looked back. The faderport and the accompanying software totalled $400, about 1/3 of the price of the dock and tablet. The capabilities are endless and it hasn't glitched even once. I should have just gone this route to begin with. Feels like night and day difference. Dock has so many customizable buttons and endless user pages on the tablet, I hardly touch the keyboard anymore. Trackball and dock make a great combo.

Glad that's working for you. I couldn't justify the cost with my current workload(or lack thereof). I also bought my FP2 used at a bargain price and got the software with the annual subscription while I decide whether to keep it going. sounds like you made the best choice for you
