Default Re: Vocal Preamp?

The preamps on the Digi 002 are indeed of the "clean / neutral" variety, which is, IMO, exactly the type that should be included on such a product because they can be used in all kinds of situations / applications. They will work just fine for vocal tracking.

OTOH, a more "colored" preamp can also give great results. In some cases, even better than a more "neutral" preamp. Much of this will depend on the mic, vocalist, musical genre and your personal tastes and preferences. Some excellent choices would be anything Neve based (Vintech, Brent Averill, Great River NV series, Phoenix, et al) or API based.

I'm not sure if this link will work but It is to the results of a search of the DUC on the term "mic pre" , If the link don't work you can search it yourself, but I've seen lots of useful comments in the archives, I personally haven't tried any of them and will probably wait until I can get an RNP judging from what I've read among the comments.

The ones on the 002 are clean, I would also check out Presonus Blue Tube, TL Audio Ivory 2 series 5001, and the Focusrite ISA stuff.

If you are big Neve preamp fan, check out the Vintech X73. VERY HOT SOUND!!!

<hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">all of the pre's Phil listed here are great. However, I prefer the API's. I find them a little less colored and therefore more versatile. They also have the lowest noise floor of any of them.
