Default Pro Tools LE 7.3.1cs3 Update for Mac OS X Crashes PT

Pro Tools LE 7.3.1cs3 Update for Mac OS X installed on my G5 2.5 Quad, OS 10.3.8, DIGI 002. Now PT will not launch. Digi Coreaudio Driver will launch but when I click on the HW Setup button it crashes. Did all the usual permissions, Disk Warrior fix stuff including a full reinstall of PT7.3.1cs2. Still have the same problems. It seems as though it's something to do with permissions, PT software being unable to access files to get to the DIGI 002. Anyone know which file the DIGI CoreAudio Manager is trying to access when I click on the HW Setup button? Please help...

Read the General Troubleshooting thread at the top of the LE forum. Do everything. Then, let us know if there is still a problem.

Good luck!

Did you repair permissions before and after installing. You should always do that with every piece of software.

OK. I found my fix. Turns out it was a preference file. I created a new user and pro tools did open. So, I quickly narrowed it down to the invisible .GlobalPreferences.plist file in my user/Library/Preferences folder. Made a copy of this same file found in the new user Library/Preferences folder, changed the get info prefs to me. Put this copied file in my user/Library/Preferences folder and voila, Pro Tools opened. Only .Mac syncing and two other apps needed to be re-registered. And yes, I then installed ptle731cs3_36748.dmg a second time and all is well. I'm not sure, but I think some files in My user preference folder were bugged due to Kernel panics prior to installing this update. So, I avoided an Archive and install . Back to music making!

Digi says:

"Pro Tools LE 7.3 is officially supported on Mac OS X 10.4.8 for PowerPC-based and Intel-based Macs
Pro Tools 7.x will not run on Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and earlier."

You need to upgrade your OS to 10.4.8. 7.x is not supported on your 10.3.8.

This statement makes no sense. A.) you've mentioned the same version, but I assume this is a typo.
B.) Going from 10.4.9 to 10.4.8 isn't an upgrade. It's a downgrade. The problem is Digi, not their users. Digi needs to upgrade to the current OS, just like every music s/w manufacturer already has, rather than asking users – especially ones using Intel Core2 processors, which only work with 10.4.9 – to downgrade.

Um ben? Read more carefully. That's not what he was talking about at all and there is no typo in Park's post. 10.3.9 is different from 10.4.9, the original poster is using 10.3.8 which is why Park posted his suggestion.

And secondly, I've never seen it suggested to anyone that they downgrade if their machines come with 10.4.9. It seems to work for most folks, but for those on 10.4.8 it's recommended that they not upgrade in case they're one of the small percentage that has issues.

Ben, what are you talking about? This user is at 10.3.8 and 7.x is not supported. He needs to upgrade his OS for proper operation.

BTW, Waves says not to use 10.4.9 also.

Correction : My original post at the top of this thread stated the wrong OS X operating system. I am actually running OS X 10.4.8 on a G5 2.5 PowerPC Quad , NOT 10.3.8 Too tired = Typos and mistakes. Thanks for your responses.
