Yep,

First activate the "root" account if you haven't already. Then open Terminal and type "su" which will give your user session root privileges for a while. Last is to type and run the command I told you to run as root

Happy testing.

Cool.

Thanks. .

I think I'll leave this until we've finished the album we're currently mixing. .

Right, there is currently a limitation of 32768. I wouldn't go mucking with the OS....

We are expecting to increase this number in a future release of Pro Tools.

Hope that helps..

Did every version of ProTools has this limitation? It's the first time I come across this limit and have done very big sessions before.

Has this been sorted ?
I'm on a Mac 3.2 with 10GB RAM and hd3 accel PT8 cs1? surely it could handle more then 32k session files ....
Keep getting them errors ...
we chopped a live drum take to 16th of a bar (for 105 bars) in total it was 18480 regions (don't ask ..) ... then we needed to do another drum take ...

I deleted all the fades and rebuild them. There were now about 700 fades less, isn't that strange? But that actually didn't help. After creating a new blank session, with not all the tracks imported into it (tried with all tracks first, didn't help), I'm back in business. But how long, I wonder...
hi there
when editing big drum sessions, I have up to 25000fade files. everything works without a problem. It is a bit slow, but it works.
what you could do is, split the session in 2. and consolidate part1 then reimport.
that's what Im doing when Im finished with editing.
hope that helps

Exclamation Re: maximum number of files in one session?

I have a large session on 7.4/OSX 10.4.11 running on a dual 2.0 machine and have run up against the limit (as stated by Danny)...about 31k+ fades and several hundred Audio Files.

I did some tests with the kern.maxfiles parameter (mentioned in this thread), but they didn't help (also FYI, this parameter resets upon restart).

I also opened the same test session in v. 8.0 and had the exact same problems (no kern.maxfiles test on that machine though).

I do a lot of micro editing (across a large number of tracks) for classical music, and it is increasingly necessary to have more than this many fades in a single session. If this issue has not been addressed in 8.0, when will it be addressed??
