Default No audio file in folder, but files in session???

How do I save this file with its audio files? I see no audio files folder when I open it. I asked this question before but was mistaken as to the condition of the session folder, please help.

Was the audio imported separately or was it recorded within the session? If it was imported, copy the audio into the "Audio Files" folder in the session and relink them.

You can go to the Regions bin menu on the right, go to show, then select full path to see where all of your audio files currently reside. Then, as PD-John mentions, copy those files into your audio files folder. PT should automatically create an audio files folder when you open a session if one doesn't already exist. Something to be aware of, if you create a new session from a template, PT will not create an audio files folder until you close and reopen that session.

Hope this helps.

When I click the session it opens to file folders, but no audio files folder, when I open the ptf file the session opens with the tracks/audio files there. Why there are no audio files folder in the folder, I don't know and can't save the file to a dvd with its audio files since they aren't in the session folder. Where would the audio files be? When I try to save this session its says it is only 65kb!

There's no audio files in the session folder because Pro Tools is getting the files from somewhere else on your computer/harddrive, which is why they still appear in the session.

Do as dj_grimmace said and you will see exactly where Pro Tools is getting the files from, then you can copy these files into the session's Audio Files folder and relink them, so the files are coming from the session folder as opposed to elsewhere. This will allow you to save your entire session (with the audio files) onto a DVD or harddrive etc.

Also, you'll find the Pro Tools Reference Guide rather helpful.

I know and again, I appreciate the guidance. Just easier to deal with humans than search functions that don't understand my query.

Read the reference manual section on Disk Allocation; it's all there.

You can open the Project Browser (option - O) which will display all the files in the session and their location, then sort by path, select everything that's *not* in your session folder, pull down the project browser mini-menu on the upper right hand corner and select 'copy and relink' (or something like that - not in front of my rig right now). This will copy all selected files to your session folder.

But really, in the future, just keep an eye on Disk Allocation!

best,
rich

yachty,

Just another suggestion in case you are merely trying to archive a completed session to DVD...

Rather than trying to find all the referenced files, just go to your session, open the region bin, select unused (shift-command-U on a Mac), and then "clear selected". (Remove, not Delete!) Then, go to your File menu, and select "Save Copy In...", and select a new location for the copy. Check the box to copy the Audio Files, and all the active files in the session will be copied to the new location. You can then archive this session and Audio Files folder to DVD with confidence you will get it back as last played. If you think you might need all the unused takes, just skip the step about "clear selected" and all takes ever in the session will be archived as well.

And do as others have suggested and pay attention to disk allocation. Make sure "round robin" is turned off (does that even exist anymore? I haven't looked...) or you will have files scattered all over your attached drives.

Hope that helps.

Bob
