Default are Mac\'s slow on the net?

Is it true that Mac's are not very fast for internet surfing?....I have a new 12 inch powerbook g4 with a high speed cable connection to the net and it seems kinda slow for a high speed connection?...

I called the internet company I get my servicve from and the tech said that he has heard that Mac's are a little slower?...

This does not make any sense, I pay all this extra money for a supposedly , more powerful computer and it's slower?...plus us Mac users don't get any of the Microsoft software like those pc guys?.....

can anyone shed some light on this topic?......

I own two computers: A Mac G4 for my Mix system and a Vaio Desktop for my Internet, Games and movies. My XP system IS a bit faster and more efficient online, but as far as software goes, I don't know what you mean. If you mean Word, excel, Windows media player, etc. do a bit more research because they ARE available on a mac.

Yes, Macs are slower because they have to constantly dispose of the 100,000 viri that that you catch when surfing with a WINtel .

PS: I hope you get the message

My experience with Safari on my G5 is that it is much faster than Explorer on my Dell notebook.

My G4 400mHz with Safari seems just as fast on the net as my wife's 1.4gHz Gateway with Explorer.
Both are on the same network with high speed cable.

Actually I take that back. The Gateway is faster. But I'll check my daughters 1.3gHz PB later.
IMHO though Safari is by far a better browser for surfing. Tab feature beats multiple windows.

A good way to test would be to install Firefox on Mac and PC and see the relative speeds.

in reference to the software, what I meant was....I know it's IS available for the Mac but it doesn't come with the computer when you buy an Apple computer as opposed to all the PC's....

So if you use a Mac you have to spend another $1000 for Microsoft software....that kinda gets annoying...

If your a huge studio like the Hit Factory or NRG, another couple thousand for software is peanuts but if your a struggling artist than that's a HUGE amount of money.....I'm sure there's a reason that Apple does not bundle any of the Microsoft Office software on new machines;....probably cuz they can and people will still buy them....

ALSO: I noticed that the powerbook G4's do not come with Garage Band too?...it's the only part of the iLife bundle that is not on my 12 inch powerbook....???

I too have a powerbook b4 12" and it came with garageband, I don't know if it's an addition to the ilife bundle, since I just bought it 5 months ago, but just to let you know. Also, I don't have any speed problems with web surfing, of course it has to do, with the Lan I use at work.

My Mac and Pentium have similar specs and I don't really notice a difference via modem.
