I've used the T-racks 24 for approx. 2 years or so....It's cool, but not the shizzanks....I'm using the RTAS demo and I'm not really that impressed....Not saying that it sucks, It just doesnt blow me away like waves etc....Though I cant wait to try ILIO's Amplitude....We'll see....I say dont waste the $400 on RTAS T-racks

T-racks standalone is GREAT! Worth the money. I didn't try the Rtas yet. But I must say that buy it only if you have other things to use as well (Waves, Mcdas, or BF etc..). becouse (in my case) it doesn't sound great in all types of songs, so it's not an Overall Final Solution App. Rocks anyway... I don´t use T Racks for anything else than dithering the master from 24 to 16 bits. There is a CLEAR, audible difference between processing the same through PT dither or T Racks dither. T Racks sounds much cleaner and better, no doubt about it. Idon´t know why, but it is so. I simply prepare 24 bit master (with L1 without dither), bounce it to stereo interleaved, then put into T RAcks dither and process it (few seconds). Results great. Ready for an audio CD.

Is it really THAT much better than the Waves dither? Have you ever tried Apogee? (Just curious )...

lukemaniak and ISedlacek,

I coudn't agree more with both of you.
I have T-Racks 24 standalone and while it isn't a general solution for everything, it's dither is really transparent and yes, I do believe it is that much better than any of the other dithering apps I have including L1. I always use ProTools in 24 bit mode, even if the original files are 16 bit. I dither to 16 bits as ISedlacek does using L1 without dither and T-Racks stand alone.

I have tried all the dithering apps I have for ProTools and they all produce errors other than the dither. The errors are in the form of inaudible(?) clicks and glitches which T-Racks doesn't produce. I have jpegs of the glitch waveforms if anybody is interested. It would appear that this is a ProTools anomaly perhaps only present in LE and possibly a result of 16 bit truncation.
Upon further investigation, I found that the errors are present on any PT's 16 bit bounce even without dither. This may help to explain why some have an issue with PT's bounces. I've never had a problem with the bounces because I always work and bounce in 24 bit.

BTW - T-Racks RTAS DOESN'T include the dither. Even if it did, I would still prefer to use the standalone version for 24 to 16 to avoid the PT's glitches.

T-racks will convert a 24 bit file to 16 bit, but will it also convert 48k to 44:1k?

Thanks, "ol 88"

No. Not the standalone version anyway.
And being a plugin, I assume the RTAS version would be limited by the session setup.
