Did Apple buy Dolby? Apple has zero control on ATMOS. (And for those unaware, Apple Spatial is not ATMOS)

I use the 18i/20 for my home studio but route via the bridge to the DAPS first then to the Scarlet. You can do all you speaker layouts , trims and delays there first and you get linked volume, dim, etc and fold downs from Atmos to Stereo. I have a 7.1.4 premix setup which translates well and because I route straight to DAPS moving my sessions to and from a stage is hassle free. Saying that the Scarletts software mixer and linked volume has always worked fine for me but now I never touch it.

How do you do Atmos 7.1.4 with the Scarlett 18i20?

It has 10 analog outs and then I use the spdif out via an analog converter for the final 2 heights. Lines up well enough for my needs.

That makes sense but there isn’t a single monitor control for all of those outputs unless I’m missing something.

As I said I go from ProTools to the Dolby Atmos Production Suite and then to the scarlet. That has all the monitor functions you need.

Those features are in demand for sound editing rooms but not in the wider world so it does take a bit of digging to get to the info about whether any particular interface is up to the task. I ended up with the Apogee Quartet and I like it as it has a big knob. Simple.

However, how about instead of 6 outputs I just wanted 3 for LCR? Are there other options that can link 3 outputs rather than a "full" 6? Does that bring any other interfaces into play? It would seem unlikely given that stereo and 5.1 are more common. But does anyone know of any?

Hi Branko,

Steinberg UR28M does exactly this, I’ve had one for about 8 years without issue.

The volume knob displays its -db value in the software (digital control in 0.5db steps) so you can actually recall specific monitor levels by reading the value and turning the knob.

It has mute per pair of outputs (so you can mute L+R, C+ LFE, Ls + Rs for example). But no solos sadly.

It has a dim button, headphone outs x2 and some preamps which are fine for the price.

I really like it for what it is.
