Anyone still on this thread?

OBVs with the new M2/M1X this are going to get better.

Going to upgrade when these new chips come in soon.

Any new updates on equipment used with a Mac Mini?

The rumours at present seem to suggest that the next lot of Apple Silicon machines will be available in Q4 of 2021, using an M1x chip. While larger M2 stuff will hit the market in 2022. "Leaked" benchmarks put the M1X slightly above a 16-core nMP in terms of processing speed. It is just rumours, though. A lot of rumours also suggested new apple silicon at the start of June during the WWDC, but nothing eventuated.

I am happy with my 2013 trashcan for the time being. Every time I use a 2018 Mac mini I get reminded how obtrusive the fans in it can be. Perhaps when iLok finally sort out Apple Silicon support we might see more people moving over.

to me, the 2018 6 core mini is underpowered and I do not run huge bulky session. I keep it lean. 6 core can't run some of the modern AI plug ins well. I'm really disappointed in my side grade. I should have done a faster Mac.

Interesting. Think my cMP is just as powerful as the trashcan.

What worries me is having no eGPU on Apple Silicone. I run 3 screens + my black magic card for PT video.

Also by the time you buy all the external stuff are you better off buying a bigger Mac with PCIe slots?...

The lack of eGPU and limited RAM keep me from investigating M1 so far.

But no even buying external doodads and attachments you're still much cheaper than the new Pro. They really need an in-between. The Pros seem great but not something I can buy for home use.

Me too. I'm staying away till then.

Yeah but there is talk of a Mini Pro. They should be able to do alot more now for cheaper, seeing as they don't have to cool as much.

Fingers crossed.
